Hermes, famous for its beautifully crafted handbags and designer scarves, is synonymous with timeless elegance and superior quality. From modest beginnings in 1837 as a maker of horse harnesses for Parisians, Hermes has evolved to become an international luxury house for accessories, shoes, clothes and homewears. It has been at the cutting edge of technology; the first to use a zip on a woman's bag and one of the first luxury brands to open an online store. A number of its bags have achieved iconic status including the Kelly bag favoured by Grace Kelly in 1956 and the Birkin bag popularised by the actress Jane Birkin in 1984. Their bags are repairable for life and pass from one generation to the next.
